トランスフォーマー ゴーストオブイエスタデイ

トランスフォーマーといえば、30から40代の人にとっては、子供の頃にテレビアニメやおもちゃ、ゲームで、親しみのある人も多いであろう。

この作品はスティーブン・スピルバーグ製作総指揮、マイケルベイ監督により実写映画化され、世界中で大ヒットを記録しているから、多くの人がご存知であろう。

実写版で驚かされたのは、CG の美しさにトランスフォーマーが細部まで表現されており、その迫力といったら当時の最先端であった。

さてそんなトランスフォーマーの小説版ということだが、この Ghost of yesterday は、トランスフォーマーたちが、 なぜ地球にやってきたのかが明らかになる映画の前日譚である。

まずはじめに映画ではキャラクターが英語名のため多少の違和感を覚えるかもしれない。

物語は1969年ケネディ宇宙センターにて、月面探索機アポロ11号が、打ち上げられるところから始まる。

アポロ11号打ち上げの裏で、同じ日の同時刻、北極の高緯度の孤島にて、極秘にとある宇宙船も打ち上げられていた。

その宇宙船の形状はアポロ11号によく似ていたが、性能は全くもっての異質であった当時の技術ではありえないような科学技術が使われていたのだ。

その宇宙船の名はゴースト1号。

この宇宙船は北極で発見された極寒の氷に閉ざされていた謎の機械エイリアン。

通称「アイスマン」の技術を用いたものであった。

このアイスマンこそ、遠い昔遥か彼方の宇宙から地球へとやってきたトランスフォーマー、 デストロンの首領メガトロンであったのだ。

機械生命体の技術を用いて、宇宙へと旅立ったゴースト1号であったが、気づくと謎のワームホールを通り、未知なる銀河へと遭難してしまうのであった。

そこで人類が目にしたものは、敵対する二つの機械生命体、サイバトロンとデストロンだった。

両者は激しく対立し、戦いを繰り広げていた。

その場に偶然か、はたまた運命か、メガトロンの技術を用いた人類の宇宙船がトランスフォーマーと遭遇してしまう。

果たして人類の運命は、そしてゴースト1号のクルー達とトランスフォーマー達の出会いは、この先の未来にどう関わっていくのか。

全ての謎が明かされるようとしている。

For people in their 30s and 40s, Transformers is a familiar name from childhood, known through TV animation, toys, and games.

This franchise gained worldwide acclaim with its live-action film adaptation produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Michael Bay, becoming a blockbuster known to many.

What astonished viewers in the live-action version was the detail of the Transformers, expressed with cutting-edge CG at the time, which added incredible impact.

This novel, 'Ghosts of Yesterday,' serves as a prequel to the film, revealing why the Transformers came to Earth.

Readers might initially feel a slight disconnect with the English names of the characters in the movie compared to those in the novel, such as:

Autobots → Cybertrons

Decepticons → Destrons

Optimus Prime → Convoy

Bumblebee → Bumble

The story begins in 1969 at the Kennedy Space Center with the launch of Apollo 11. Simultaneously, on the same day and at the same time, a secret spacecraft was launched from a secluded island in the high latitudes of the Arctic.

This spacecraft, named Ghost 1, resembled Apollo 11 but was built with incomprehensibly advanced technology, far beyond what was possible at the time.

Ghost 1 was constructed using technology from a mysterious mechanical alien, known as 'Iceman,' which was discovered encased in Arctic ice.

This Iceman was, in fact, Megatron, the leader of the Destrons from Transformers, who had come to Earth from a distant space.

Ghost 1, powered by this mechanical lifeform's technology, inadvertently travels through a mysterious wormhole during its space journey and ends up stranded in an unknown galaxy.

Here, humanity encounters the two warring mechanical lifeforms, the Cybertrons and the Destrons.

Caught in the middle of their fierce conflict, the human spacecraft, utilizing Megatron's technology, encounters the Transformers.

The story unfolds to reveal the fate of humanity, the crew of Ghost 1, and their encounters with the Transformers. It sets the stage for unraveling all mysteries and the future implications of these interactions.
