Hunter's Run

Hunter's Run - A Review

English Virsion

Author: George R. R. Martin, Gardner Dozois, Daniel Abraham

Ramon is a prospector living on the colony planet of San Paulo. He's a rough man, especially prone to fighting when he drinks.

One day, while at his usual bar, El Rey, he gets into a fight and ends up killing a man, who turns out to be an ambassador from Europa.

If caught, he knows he would face death. The bar owner, having seen nothing, urges Ramon to flee.

Ramon escapes to the northern mountains to hide and lay low, combining it with a prospecting trip.

However, what he encounters there is a creepy, unfamiliar species of alien life form.

His van is destroyed, and while trying to escape, he is attacked and loses consciousness.

When he wakes up, he finds himself captured, with a flesh-made cord stabbed into his neck, stripping him of his freedom.

The aliens demand that Ramon become a hunter to capture an escaped human.

With no choice, Ramon, along with an alien named Maneck, embarks on a journey to hunt down the fugitive.

Initially, Ramon, unable to fully understand Maneck, only thinks of how to kill the alien and help the fugitive escape.

But as they continue their journey together, Ramon's thoughts begin to change.

He comes to know a shocking truth about himself and discovers the real identity of the human they are pursuing.

Eventually, Ramon encounters the human he was sent to capture.

He faces two choices: kill the human, which seems to be the best option for him, or escape together with the human.

Ramon chooses the latter, fleeing from the aliens with the human. But was this the right choice? What fate awaits Ramon?

This work is the culmination of over 30 years of collaboration. Initially conceived by Gardner Dozois, then joined by Martin for further writing, and finally Daniel Abraham, creating a thoroughly engaging work.

Ramon, initially coarse and rough in his speech and demeanor, develops a strange friendship with the alien Maneck and a peculiar bond with the human he decides to flee with.

As the story progresses, the original Ramon seems to transform into a completely different person, engrossed in a tale of transformation.

Maneck's use of seemingly nonsensical words like "Tatekureude" and "Aubre" becomes somewhat understandable through Ramon's dialogue and emotions as the story progresses.

The book is an engaging SF piece that keeps the reader hooked until the very end.
