前日の夜遅くに札幌へと戻った3人は、4日目も早朝から活動していた。

この日は車で函館へ向かう予定なのだ。

札幌から函館までは高速を使って4時間位の長距離移動になるが、この3人にそんな事は関係ない。

朝からノリノリの3人だった。

「北海道のドライブって最高に気持ちいいね」 絵里が言った。

すぐに希が返す。

「そうやねぇ、自然が多いのと信号が少ないからかなぁ。うちも運転しててすごい気分ええし」

「希はいつ車の免許取ったの？ずいぶん運転に慣れてるみたいだけど」

グミをほおばりながらツバサが尋ねる。

「昨年の夏から教習所に通って、冬休みに取ったんよ。免許取るのは学校で禁止されとるからこっそりね。μ'sの活動もあったから大変やったけど」

「希は悪い子だね。それで運転は?」　

「隣におじいちゃんが住んどるから、たまに車借りて運転してたぐらいやね」

「つまり…希は車も運転するし、お酒も飲むし悪い子ってわけね!」

「いや…そんな悪い子と一緒にお酒飲んでたツバサはどうなん？」

「私？私は…いい子ではないだろうね。アハハハッ」

楽しそうに笑うツバサだった。

そんな会話をしながら気づけば函館に到着した3人。

ツバサが行きたいと熱望していたご当地バーガーのお店へ行ったり、市内を観光したりして1日を満喫する。

そして日が暮れて3人が向かったのは、日本の3大夜景とも言われる函館山だった。

ここからの夜景のために年間に何万人もが訪れる有名な場所である。

日中は東京と変わらない位に暑いが、夜は少し肌寒い位である。

夜景を眺めて既に10分ぐらい過ぎていたが、普段口数の多いツバサも珍しく黙って見つめている。

そこで希が口を開いた。

「自然と人工の景色が見事に融合してて、めっちゃ綺麗だね」

「そうね。壮大なものを目の前にすると、自分の悩みとかってなんてちっぽけなんだろうって思うよね…」

「どうしたの絵里？何か悩みでもあるの?」　

「いや…大した事じゃないけど、ちょっとね」

「何よそれ。気になるから言いなさいよ。」

「うん…実は私モデルのスカウトされてて…学校もあるし、BiBiの活動もあるからどうしようかと思ってて」

「なんだ。そんな事か。やりたいならやる。それ以外になくない?」　

「確かにツバサの言う通りかも。もう少し考えてみるよ」

「そういうツバサはどうなん？プロのアイドルは大変やろう?」　

「まぁねー、悩みはたくさんあるけど、考えたらキリないから考えないようにしてるよ。今は全力で楽しむ。それが私のモットーだから」

「ツバサらしいね。でも2人とも何かあればいつでも言ってな。話聞くから」

「ありがとう希」ツバサが言った。

ツバサはプロアイドルと並行しながら学生をしている。

ストレスも悩みも多いだろう。

だが、周囲にはそんな姿を一切見せる事はなかった。

一方の絵里はと言うと、以前ファッションショーのイベントに出演した際、モデルのスカウトをされ、以後も定期的に話が来ていた。

それだけ熱心に誘ってくれると言う事は、その事務所も絵里であれば、間違いなくモデルとしてやれると思ってのことだろう。

絵里もそんな誘いに少し迷っていた。

そしてその2人を優しく支えるような希…

こうして3人はより一層絆を深めていくのだった。

そこへツバサが話題を変える。

「ねー、今だから言える。ぶっちゃけ話、しちゃう?」　

「を、いいね。ぶっちゃけ話好きやで」

「じゃぁA– RISEとμ'sが戦ったた時の話なんてどう？」

「いいね、私も聞いてみたいなぁ。その頃の話」

「オーケーあの頃のA– RISEわね」

3人は函館山の景色を眺めながら、スクールアイドルとしてA– RISEとμ'sとして活躍していた頃の話を始めた。

今から約1年前。

スクールアイドルの頂点を決める大会としてラブライブが創設され、その記念すべき第一回大会を圧倒的な差で優勝したA– RISE。

彼女たちはラブライブ創設以前から、スクールアイドルとして活躍していた大人気グループだった。

アイドル好きならその名を知らない人はいない位に。

綺羅ツバサ、優木安住、統堂英玲奈による3人組ユニットA– RISE。

彼女たちのラブライブ優勝は当然と言える結果だった。

第一回大会の後には第２回大会開催も発表され、もちろんA– RISEはエントリーしていた。

そしてμ'sもである。

ある日の放課後のこと、ダンススタジオで練習の準備をしていたら、あんじゅが私に話しかけてきた。

「ねぇツバサ知ってる？第２回ラブライブにμ'sもエントリーしたみたいだよ」

「μ'sって第１回大会で人気急上昇ピックアップアイドルだったよね。途中でエントリーやめちゃったんだよね」

「うん。私少し注目してたから。まぁあまり気にしなくても大丈夫だと思うけど」

「まぁそうだね…て英玲奈は?」　

「今日は家の用事があるって帰ったよ」

「えっ！それじゃあ振りの練習できないじゃん!」

「気にしないの。いつものことじゃん」

「リーダーとして今度説教してやる！ (にしてもμ'sか…)」

私はあんじゅの言葉が頭から離れなかった。

μ'sがエントリーしたと言うことが。

μ'sは私たちと同じアキバを地元とする音乃木坂学院のスクールアイドルで、私も実は少しだけ注目していた。

でも注目してるといってもあくまでも知っている程度だし、実際に会ったこともない。

だけど、彼女たちのPVを見て思ったんだ。

楽曲の良さはもちろんのことだけど、9人全員が本当に心から楽しそうに歌って踊っているなって。

だから、同じ地元アキバで活動するものとして、いつか機会があれば直接会ってみたいなと思っていた。

実際μ'sは着実に人気を集めていて、第１回大会、東京二次予選突破圏内の20以内まで順位を上げていたから、もしかしたらと思ってたんだけど…

突然ランクからμ'sの名が消えてて、それどころかエントリーすら取りやめていた。

私は少し残念に思ったんだ。

なぜなら、μ'sであれば、いつか私たちにとって最高のライバルになるんじゃないかって予感があったから、

でももう出場を取りやめたユニットのことをどうこう言っても仕方ないし、私たちは今まで通り全力で活動を続けた。

そしてその結果は誰が見てもわかる位の差で優勝を果たした。

嬉しかった。

素直に嬉しかった。

だけど…何かが足りない、物足りないと感じていた。

そして第２回大会にμ'sがエントリーしたと聞いて、私は理解した。

足りなかったもの、それはμ'sだった。

μ'sと言う存在を私は求めていたんだって。

EP-022 Searching for the Summer Scenery ⑪ (181)

The three friends, who had returned to Sapporo late the previous night, were up and about early on their fourth day.

They planned to drive to Hakodate today. Despite the four-hour journey from Sapporo to Hakodate using the expressway, the trio was undeterred and in high spirits from the morning.

Driving in Hokkaido feels incredibly good, Eri remarked.

To which Nozomi quickly responded, "Yeah, maybe it's because of the nature and fewer traffic lights. I feel great driving too."

"When did you get your driver's license, Nozomi? You seem quite used to driving." Tsubasa asked while munching on some gummies.

"I started going to driving school last summer and got it during the winter break. It was tough with μ's activities and since it’s forbidden at school, I had to do it secretly."

"Nozomi, you're such a bad girl. And how about driving?"

"Well, my grandpa lives next door, so I sometimes borrow his car and drive."

"So... Nozomi drives and drinks, a bad girl indeed!"

"Well... what about you, Tsubasa? You were drinking with me, weren't you?"

"Me? I guess I'm not a good girl either. Ahahaha!"

Tsubasa laughed joyfully. While engaging in such conversations, they arrived in Hakodate.

They visited a local burger restaurant, eagerly anticipated by Tsubasa, and enjoyed sightseeing around the city.

As dusk fell, the trio headed to Mount Hakodate, renowned for one of Japan's three most beautiful night views. Annually, tens of thousands visit this famous spot just for the view. Seated on a bench, huddled close, they gazed at the night scenery. Though as hot as Tokyo during the day, the night was pleasantly cool.

Having been quietly admiring the view for about ten minutes, Nozomi finally spoke, "The fusion of nature and man-made beauty here is really stunning."

True. Facing such grandeur makes one's personal troubles seem so trivial, Eri mused.

What’s on your mind, Eri? Anything troubling you?

No, not really. Just a little thing.

Spill it. You can't just leave us hanging.

Well... I’ve been scouted as a model... With school and BiBi activities, I’m not sure what to do.

If you want to do it, just go for it. Isn't that the only option? Tsubasa suggested.

You might be right. I'll think about it some more.

How about you, Tsubasa? Being a professional idol must be tough.

Yeah, plenty of worries, but I don't dwell on them. I focus on enjoying the moment. That’s my motto.

That's so you, Tsubasa. But remember, if either of you ever need to talk, I'm here to listen.

Thanks, Nozomi, Tsubasa replied.

Tsubasa was a student and a professional idol, juggling stress and worries without showing them. Eri, on the other hand, had been scouted as a model after participating in a fashion show event. The persistent offers indicated the agency's confidence in her potential as a model. Eri was somewhat hesitant about the proposition.

And there was Nozomi, always there to gently support them both, deepening their bond.

Tsubasa then changed the subject. "Hey, since we're all here, let's have a candid talk. How about discussing the time A-RISE and μ's battled?"

I'd love to hear about those days, Eri said.

Okay, let’s talk about A-RISE back then, Tsubasa began.

About a year ago, the first Love Live was held to determine the pinnacle of school idols, and A-RISE, already a popular group before Love Live's inception, won by a significant margin. A-RISE, composed of Kira Tsubasa, Yuuki Anju, and Toudou Erena, was a well-known unit among idol fans.

After their victory in the first competition, the second Love Live was announced, and both A-RISE and μ's registered. One day after school, while preparing for dance practice, Anju approached Tsubasa.

Did you hear? μ's has entered the second Love Live, Anju said.

Yeah, they were the up-and-coming idols in the first competition but withdrew midway.

I've been keeping an eye on them. But I don’t think we need to worry too much.

Right... Where’s Erena?

She had some family business and went home.

What! Then we can't practice the choreography!

Don't worry about it. It happens all the time.

Tsubasa couldn't shake Anju's words from her mind - μ's entering the competition. μ's, based in Akihabara like them, attended Otonokizaka Academy and had caught a bit of Tsubasa's attention. Their PVs showed all nine members singing and dancing with genuine joy. Tsubasa, representing Akihabara, hoped to meet them someday.

μ's steadily gained popularity, making it into the top 20 of Tokyo's Love Live qualifiers. But then, their name disappeared from the ranks, and they even withdrew their entry. Tsubasa felt a bit disappointed, sensing that μ's could have become their greatest rivals.

Despite the withdrawal, A-RISE continued their activities and won the first Love Live convincingly. It was a joyful victory, but something felt missing. When Tsubasa learned about μ's entry into the second Love Live, she realized what was missing - it was μ's.

The trio, gazing at the Hakodate scenery, began sharing stories of their days as school idols with A-RISE and μ's.
