特別偵察での別れから２年、ついにシンとレーナは再会を果たす。

電磁加速砲型レギオンの討伐に成功したギアーデ連邦軍は生き残ったエイティシックスの兵士、士官を得たのである。

だが特殊な環境課にあった86の兵士が通常の軍にすぐさま適応できるわけがない。

そこでレーナを総指揮官とする第86独立機動打撃群が設立される。

シンを総隊長とし、スピアヘッド舞台やシンたちの後ろに、レーナが指揮していたジデン率いる部隊といった錚々たる、メンバーであった。

再会を果たしたシンとレーナは少しずつ距離を縮めていくのだが、シンにはレーナが無理をしているのが分かっていた。

鮮血の女王と呼ばれ、強い振りをしていなかったら耐えられなかったのだ。

全てを見透かされたレーナはシンにしがみつき大泣きしてしまう。

そんな雰囲気の２人にクレナやフレデリカは嫉妬していた。

戦時とはいえ、今までにない空気であった。

だが、それもつかの間、第８６独立機動打撃群に任務が下る。

サンマグノリア共和国、旧地下鉄ターミナルにレギオンが拠点を築いていたのである。 この拠点をたたくため、シン達は再び戦場へと赴く。

目標は発電プラント型と自動工場型の撃破である。

地下ターミナルに侵入したシン達は発電プラント型の討伐に成功する。

だがそこに新型レギオンが待ち構えていた。

さらに知能を持つ羊飼いと呼ばれるレギオンが大量にいたのである。

レギオンはサンマグノリア共和国の人間の脳を大量に鹵獲していたのだ。

ただの破壊兵器である機械が人間と同等の知能を持つ...

それは人類にとって恐ろしい事であった。

そしてレギオンの真の目的はシンであったのだ...

レーナとシンの共闘を描いたシリーズ第４弾である。

今作では作者も言っている通り、比較的ライトな部分が多い。

特に前半に関しては顕著であろう。 シンを奪いあう乙女の話のようである。

その一方、後半は一気にレギオンとの戦いとなり、かなりエグイ摸写もあったりする。

レギオンが進化していく過程、また一度だけ名前が出てきたレギオン開発者の天才科学者ゼレーネ・ビルケンハウムはすでに死亡したことになっているが、その真相は不明であり、今後どのようにかかわってくるのかが楽しみである。

今作でもあたらしいキャラが登場し、シンの幼なじみであったアネットとのシーンが描かれるなど、レギオンとの戦闘以外にも読みどころが多い。

何はともあれ、ＥＰ.１～３を通し、ＥＰ４の今作でようやくシンとレーナが初対面し、少しずつ距離が縮まっていくのが安堵に近い気持ちになり、読んでいて少しだけ嬉しい気分になる。

Two years after their parting during a special reconnaissance mission, Shin and Lena finally reunite.

Having successfully subdued the electromagnetic acceleration cannon-type Legion, the Giad Federal Army gains the surviving 86 soldiers and officers.

However, it's clear that the 86 soldiers, who had been in a unique environment, couldn't easily adapt to a regular army.

Thus, the 86th Independent Mobile Strike Group was established, with Lena as the supreme commander.

Shin, appointed as the head of the group, and notable members like the Spearhead Squadron and the unit led by Jiden, previously commanded by Lena, join forces.

Upon their reunion, Shin and Lena gradually close the distance between them, but Shin can tell that Lena is pushing herself too hard.

Known as the 'Bloody Regina,' she wouldn't have survived if she hadn’t pretended to be strong.

Fully seen through by Shin, Lena clings to him and bursts into tears.

This mood between them sparks jealousy in Krena and Frederica.

Even during wartime, the atmosphere was unlike anything before.

But this was short-lived as the 86th Independent Mobile Strike Group receives a new mission.

The Legion had established a base in the San Magnolia Republic, in the old subway terminal. To dismantle this base, Shin and his team head back to the battlefield.

Their targets are the power plant-type and the automated factory-type Legions.

After infiltrating the underground terminal, Shin and his team successfully destroy the power plant-type.

But then, they encounter a new type of Legion.

Moreover, a large number of Legions known as the intelligent 'Shepherds' were present.

The Legion had captured a massive number of human brains from the San Magnolia Republic.

Machines, mere destruction weapons, possessing human-like intelligence...

This was a terrifying development for humanity.

And the true target of the Legion was Shin…

This fourth installment of the series features the joint struggle of Lena and Shin.

As the author says, this work has relatively lighter moments, especially noticeable in the first half. It's almost like a story about maidens vying for Shin.

However, the latter half swiftly turns into a brutal battle against the Legion, including some quite intense descriptions.

The evolving process of the Legion and the genius scientist Zelene Birkenbaum, who developed the Legion and is now declared dead, remains a mystery. How this will play out in the future is intriguing.

New characters appear in this installment, including scenes with Shin's childhood friend Annette, adding depth beyond just the battles with the Legion.

All in all, after EP.1 through 3, EP4 brings a sense of relief as Shin and Lena finally meet and gradually get closer, making one feel a bit happy while reading.
