ーとある日の放課後の事ー

この日夕方の6時で練習を切り上げたμ‘sicforeverの6人。

2年生の3人はその後生徒会の仕事のため、3年生とは別れて生徒会室へと向かった。

一方で部屋に部室に残り、着替えを済ませて帰り自宅をしている。3年生の3人。

「ねー穂乃果ちゃん海未ちゃん。今日どこかに寄って行かない？」

珍しくことりが2人を誘う。

いつもであれば、お腹が空いたと騒いで穂乃果が2人を誘うのが常である。

嬉しそうな顔をして反応する穂乃果。

「いいねぇ！どこ行く？ラーメン？ファミレス？ファーストフード？それともスイーツ?」

「穂乃果…あなたには食べる以外の発想は無いのですか？…」

やや呆れた口調で海未が言った。

対してことりは笑顔で返す。

「気軽におしゃべりできる場所がいいから、ファーストフードがいいかなぁ」

「ことりがファーストフードとは珍しいですね。私も大丈夫ですし、久しぶりに行きますか」

海未の言葉にことりは笑顔でうなずく。

同様に穂乃果もである。

3人は音乃木坂を後にし、ファストフード店へと向かった。アキバには多数のファーストフード店が展開しているが、μ‘sのメンバーには行きつけの店舗がいくつかある。

その中でも学校から1番近くて、コスパの良い店舗が、彼女たちの最も通っている店舗であり、3人もそこへ向かった。

店内に入ると食欲をそそる良い匂いが漂っている。

3人はそれぞれに注文をし、席へと着くが、穂乃果を見て海未とことりは毎度のことながら驚いていた。

「見てみて！ビーフ・チキン・ポークチーズバーガーだよ。美味しそう!」

とてもうれしそうに穂乃果が言った。

穂乃果のトレイにはバーガーの他にも、Lサイズポテト、チキンナゲット、アップルパイ、ジュースLサイズが載っている。思わず海未が言う。

「なんですか？その肉祭りみたいなバーガーは…油のオンパレードに炭酸飲料…見てるだけで胸焼けしそうです…」

「すごいでしょ。これ！期間限定で夢のようなバーガーだよね」

「穂乃果ちゃん、それ食べきれるの…?」

「うんっ、これぐらい余裕だよ。!」

「一応聞きますが…穂乃果は家でも夕飯食べるんですよね?」

「もちろんだよ。今日は何だろう？唐揚げか、とんかつがいいなぁ」

「ハハハ… (さらに揚げ物…きっとまたダイエットですね…)」

思わずため息が漏れる海未。

そんな海未の思いは知らず、満面の笑みを浮かべる穂乃果だった。

食べている時の穂乃果は本当に幸せそうである。

確かに穂乃果の食欲は同年代の女子と比べると相当凄いし、それによって太ってしまうこともあった。だが思っているより、というか食べている量に対してはそこまで太ってもいない。

毎日のように海未から注意されてはいるが、毎日たくさん練習してお腹がすぐに空いてしまい、穂乃果もつい食欲に負けてしまうのであった。

そんな2人を見てクスクスと笑うことりであった。

3人は注文したファーストフードを食べ終えて、一息ついたところで、ことりがガラッと雰囲気を変えて喋りだした。

「穂乃果ちゃん海未ちゃん…私ね2人に伝えたいことがあるの」

つい今の今まで楽しく3人で笑い合っていたが、真面目な顔をしてそう言ったことり。

2人もその変化にすぐに気づき、何かを察したかのようにことりの顔を見つめる。

「今度こそ自分から2人にきちんと伝えたいと思ったので聞いてください。あのね、私音乃木坂を卒業したら海外に留学することに決めたの。前回はお母さんの知り合いのツテでそういう話になっていたけど、今回はしっかりと自分の意思で決めたんだ。やっぱり私は服飾の勉強を海外の本場でしたい…日本でもそれはできるけど、より厳しい環境で学びたいと思ったの。私はファッションデザイナーになりたい…それが私の夢だから…」

「ことり…」

無意識のうちに海未の口からことりの女が漏れた。

「だから3年近くは日本を離れることになるの…その後はどうなるかわからない。でもみんなとこうして一緒にいられるのはあと半年だけなんだ。…」。

制服のスカートをぎゅっと握り締めてことりは言った。

2人もことりから視線をはずすことなく見つめたまま耳を傾けている。

「でもね、離れたとしても、私たちはずっと友達だよ。穂乃果ちゃん、海未ちゃん、そしてμ‘sのみんな…どんなに離れても私たちはずっといっしょだよ。!」

ことりはありったけの思いを言葉にした。

寂しくないわけがない。

姉妹のように育った穂乃果と海未、そして輝かしい日々を共にしてきたμ‘sの仲間たち。

そんな大切な友人を残して1人、海外の見知らぬ土地へ行く決心をするのがどんなものか…それは本人しかわからないことだ。

でも自分の夢のために決めたこと。

それにどんなに離れたとしても、思いはいつも側にあるから…。

「ことりちゃん、!」穂乃果は叫ぶようにことりの名を呼び立ち上がる。

そのままことりの手を取り引っ張るようにしてことりを抱きしめた。

「ことりちゃんありがとう…言ってくれてありがとね」穂乃果の瞳には涙が浮かんでいた。

「ことりちゃんが言ってくれて嬉しいよ。そんな当たり前のこと言わないで。私たちは離れてもずっと友達だよ。一生友達だから…ことりちゃんのこと応援してる。ことりちゃんなら素敵なデザイナーさんに絶対なれるよ。

なんといってもことりちゃんはμ‘sのとってもかわいい衣装をいつも作ってくれてたんだもん。

絶対にことりちゃんならできるよ。がんばってね。!」

「穂乃果に全部言われてしまいましたね。私も同じ気持ちです。ことり応援しているので、頑張ってくださいね」

海未はことりの手を取り笑顔でいた。

その瞬間ことりの頬涙月だった。

だが、ことりの表情は笑顔だった。

穂乃果ちゃん海ちゃんありがとう…運転がんばるね。!」小さい時からずっと一緒だった。3人。一緒じゃない時なんてなかった。

それはこの先もずっと続いていくと、少し前までは3人とも思っていた。

でも、成長して大人になっていくにつれて、将来のことが現実味を帯びてきて、それぞれの道に進むにつれて、やがてそれが変わっていく…それが大人になっていくと言うことなのである。

だが、離れてしまっても、決して3人の、μ‘sの絆が変わる事は無い。それが彼女たちミューズの9人なのだ。

「夏休みにことりちゃんのところに遊びに行くからね」

「留学先はどこなのですか？ことり？」

「アメリカだよ。LAに留学することになったんだ。穂乃果ちゃんありがとうね。じゃぁ来年はLAの海で遊ぼうね」

「うん、約束だよ！でさぁ、LAって何…？場所の事…?」

穂乃果の言葉に苦笑いの2人。海未が説明する。

「ロサンゼルスですよ。カルフォルニアのLAと言えば有名じゃないですか。西海岸は気候も良いらしいですし、良い場所ですね」

「ふーん、よくわかんないけど、わかったよ。!」

一体何がわかったのだろう、と思う海未とことりだった。

しかしことりは、いつもの穂乃果らしい姿を見て、安心するような気持ちだった。

「そういえば穂乃果ちゃんは進路どうするの？海未ちゃんは前に大学進学って聞いてたけど」

「私もとりあえず進学かな。まだはっきりと答えは出せてないけど…でもね、私はこの先も歌い続けたいなぁって思うんだ」

以前に穂乃果はやりたい事はたくさんあるけど、まだ決まっていなかった。

それから3ヶ月。

まだ明確になったわけではない。でも少しだけ前進したようである。

「ふふふ穂乃果らしいですね。お互いに頑張りましょうね」

彼女たちは、人気のスクールアイドルであるのと同時に受験生でもある。

それぞれが次の進路を決めていておかしくない時期であり、残りの高校生活もあと半年となっていた。

-One Afternoon After School-

On this day, the six members of μ'sicforever finished their practice at 6 PM. The three second-year students then parted ways with the third-years to attend to student council duties and headed to the student council room.

Meanwhile, the three third-year students stayed in the club room to change clothes and then head home.
"Hey, Honoka, Umi, do you want to stop somewhere today?" Kotori unusually invites the two.

Usually, it would be Honoka who, feeling hungry, would invite the others.
Honoka, looking delighted, responded, "Sounds good! Where should we go? Ramen? Family restaurant? Fast food? Or maybe sweets?"

Is eating the only thing you can think of, Honoka...? Umi replied, a bit exasperated.

Kotori returned with a smile, "I just want a place where we can chat easily, so fast food sounds good."

It's unusual for you to choose fast food, Kotori. I'm fine with it too; let's go after a long time, Umi said, nodding happily.

Similarly, so did Honoka. The three left Otonokizaka and headed to a fast-food restaurant.
Although there are many fast-food outlets in Akihabara, there are a few that the members of μ's frequently visit.

Among them, the one closest to the school and with the best cost-performance ratio is their most frequented spot, and that's where they went.
Upon entering, they were greeted by the delicious smell that whets the appetite.

Each placed their orders and took their seats, but Umi and Kotori couldn't help but be surprised by Honoka's choice every time.
"Look! A beef, chicken, pork cheeseburger. It looks delicious!"

Honoka exclaimed excitedly. Her tray was loaded with a burger, large fries, chicken nuggets, an apple pie, and a large drink. Umi couldn't help but comment, "What is this meat festival of a burger... a parade of grease with a carbonated drink... just looking at it makes me feel heartburn..."

It's amazing, isn't it? This burger is like a dream, and it's only available for a limited time.

Honoka, can you even finish that...?

Yeah, this is easy for me!

I have to ask... you're still going to have dinner at home, right?

Of course! I wonder what it will be today? Fried chicken or pork cutlet would be nice.

Hahaha... (more fried food... definitely another diet session...)

Umi sighed.

Unaware of Umi's thoughts, Honoka was all smiles.

Honoka looked genuinely happy while eating.
Her appetite was indeed extraordinary compared to girls her age, and although she did gain weight from it, she wasn't as overweight as one might expect given the amount she ate.

Despite being frequently cautioned by Umi, the daily practice left Honoka hungry quickly, and she often succumbed to her appetite.

Kotori chuckled as she watched the two.

After finishing their fast food, the three relaxed for a moment before Kotori suddenly changed the atmosphere and spoke seriously.

Up until then, the three had been laughing and enjoying themselves, but Kotori's serious tone made them instantly attentive.

I've decided to study abroad after graduating from Otonokizaka.
Last time it was through a connection of my mother's, but this time I made the decision entirely on my own.
I really want to study fashion in the true heartlands overseas... It's possible in Japan too, but I want to challenge myself in a tougher environment. I want to become a fashion designer... that's my dream...

Kotori...

Umi unconsciously whispered Kotori's name.

So I'll be leaving Japan for almost three years... What happens after that, I don't know. But I'll only be with you guys for another six months...

Kotori said, gripping her uniform skirt tightly.

The two listened intently, not looking away from Kotori.

But even if we're apart, we'll always be friends. Honoka, Umi, and all the members of μ's... no matter how far apart, we'll always be together!

Kotori expressed all her feelings.

It's impossible not to feel lonely.

Honoka and Umi, who grew up like sisters, and their radiant days with the members of μ's...

It's something only the person making the decision to leave behind dear friends and head to an unknown land abroad can truly understand.

But it was a decision made for her dream.

And no matter how far apart, the feelings are always close by.

Kotori-chan! Honoka cried out and stood up, taking Kotori's hand and pulling her into a hug.

Thank you, Kotori-chan... for telling us.

Tears welled up in Honoka's eyes.

" I'm so glad you told us, Kotori-chan. Don't say such obvious things. We'll always be friends, even if we're apart... I'll always support you.
Kotori-chan, you'll definitely become a wonderful designer. You've always made such cute outfits for μ's.
You can definitely do it. Good luck! "

Everything has been said by Honoka. I feel the same. We're supporting you, Kotori, so do your best, Umi said, taking Kotori's hand with a smile.

At that moment, tears streaked down Kotori's cheeks.

But she was smiling.

Thank you, Honoka-chan, Umi-chan... I'll do my best!

They had always been together since they were little. There was never a time they weren't together.

They all thought this would continue forever until not so long ago.

But as they grew and matured, the reality of their futures began to take shape, and as they each found their paths, things started to change... That's what becoming an adult means.

But even if they part ways, the bonds between the three and the nine members of μ's will never change.

Yeah, it's a promise! So, what's LA...? What's the place...?

Honoka asked, causing Umi and Kotori to chuckle. Umi explained,

It's Los Angeles. You know, LA in California. It's famous, and the climate is nice on the West Coast.

Hmm, I don't really understand, but okay!

Umi and Kotori wondered what exactly Honoka had understood.

However, seeing Honoka in her usual spirited form gave Kotori a sense of reassurance.

By the way, Honoka, what are your plans after graduation? I heard Umi is going to university.

I guess I'll probably pursue studies too. I haven't made a clear decision yet... But I want to keep singing in the future.
