The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Part 2 - A Review

English Virsion

(Author) J.R.R. Tolkien

Frodo eventually reunites with Gandalf.

Frodo's mission is to protect the ring from the encroaching evil and destroy it.

The fellowship was decided at the council, consisting of Sam, Pippin, Merry, the wizard Gandalf, the elf Legolas, the dwarf Gimli, the men Aragorn and Boromir, and Frodo, making up nine companions.

The nine set out towards Mordor to lay the ring to rest in the fires of Mount Doom.

However, many obstacles awaited them on their journey.

They were to be attacked by wolves, snakes, and orcs.

During an orc attack, Gandalf sacrifices himself to protect the others, becoming separated from the group.

Despite losing Gandalf, the group reaches Lothlorien, home of the elves.

After a brief respite, they set out on their journey again, but the shadow of Smeagol, also known as Gollum, was drawing ever closer to Frodo, seeking the ring.

Additionally, the power of the ring began to affect the companions.

Frodo decides to continue the journey alone, to avoid entangling his friends in the peril.

For those who have seen the movie first, they might find the book lacking.

However, that might be unavoidable due to the impressive world-building and visuals of the film.

To be honest, I didn't find it interesting until the middle of the second volume.

This might be due to the translation, but I never got used to the polite narrative style, and particularly Sam's manner of speaking felt off. Also, the illustrations in the book were poorly done, and honestly, it might be better without them.

However, it's nice that the first volume includes history about the hobbits and the ring.

Overall, while I feel a sense of disappointment, it's still a world-renowned fantasy masterpiece. There are different merits to the book compared to the movie, so if the style doesn't feel off, it might be worth reading.
